Engage Wannon Water

Wannon Water was coming to the end of a five-year cycle of engagement and was looking for a way to effectively house and implement its upcoming community engagement initiatives over the next five years. As Victoria’s second-largest urban water corporation by area, supplying water to over 100,000 people, it needed stronger tools to refresh and innovate its community engagement.

A Flexible Platform for Growth

Wannon Water wanted to establish a new, flexible platform, to allow for growth in its scope and reach over the next five-year engagement cycle. As part of this commitment to engagement, they desired an easy-to-use platform that provides the ability to communicate and disseminate information more readily.

Additionally, they were looking to host projects on their site, that, while not currently active, will allow for engagement opportunities to be made available to their stakeholders.

Wannon Water had an internal desire to be savvier with how they presented content online, requiring a platform with a greater capacity to house both public and private projects. The HiVE presented as the perfect opportunity for Wannon Water to enhance and grow its community engagement efforts.

While Wannon Water valued and used Social Pinpoint to the best of its abilities, the time was right to switch to The HiVE to enhance its digital engagement processes.

"Social Pinpoint was great for us, but as we looked to future engagement we wanted to expand our capabilities and tools. The HiVE offered that and with the support from both internal teams, the transition was smooth and caused no interruption to our engagement processes." – Wannon Water.

Implementing The HiVE

Wannon Water supplies water to over 24,500 square kilometers of farmlands, suburbs, and towns across South West Victoria. With such a varied expanse of stakeholders impacted, ensuring they can effectively communicate and engage with their community is crucial.

After switching to The HiVE, Wannon Water now has a dedicated community engagement site to house all of their active, upcoming, and past projects.

To launch these new projects and make modifications to the existing ones, Wannon Water has utilised The HiVE’s drag-and-drop UI, in-page editing capabilities, and page templates to create a well-rounded and inviting user experience. They were able to accomplish all this in a timely manner because of The HiVE’s easy-to-understand and completely customisable back-end experience.

“Moving across has allowed us to have a mental shift in the way we approach our engagement and build projects as we have so much more capability in The HiVE. We could have a clear vision of what we wanted the engagement site to look like and do to increase our communication capacity.” – Wannon Water.

A Positive Shift for Active, Accessible Engagement

Wannon Water has been able to create a more accessible home for all their community projects and initiatives. These new and exciting capabilities have allowed their team to have a huge mental shift in the way they approach community engagement and build projects.

Their Engage & Explore site provides an incredibly visual and interactive space for anyone to easily access information about active or upcoming community projects, or dive in deeper with their Learning Centre.

The emphasis placed on their need for innovative content tools, such as the Hotspot tool, has enabled Wannon Water to display information in a much more palatable and accessible way. Different teams across Wannon Water are now coming together to create more projects due to its ease-of-use.

As Wannon Water can now host project pages with no current engagement opportunities, they can utilise the Follow functionality to notify any interested members of engagement opportunities when they are available. This has allowed Wannon Water to not only provide an ongoing hub of information for their stakeholders, but ensure they can stay up to date and not miss an opportunity to engage.

Now, the community of South-Western Victoria can clearly communicate with their water provider and have a greater say on the projects that are important to them.
